Homemade Ghee

What you’ll need:

  • 1 pound grass fed butter (I like the Kerrygold brand)

  • saucepan

  • glass jar(s)

  • coffee filter, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag

Instructions:

  1. Slice butter into cubes and add to saucepan on low heat.

  2. Melt butter and bring to a simmer.

  3. Foam will begin to form on the top. Use a spoon to scrape off the foam and discard. You will need to do this several times.

  4. Continue cooking ghee on low for 25-30 minutes until the middle layer is translucent. You will see milk solids at the bottom of the pan.

  5. Remove from heat and let ghee cool slightly then strain into glass jar.

  6. Let cool completely until ghee is solid, then cover. Store at room temp.
